What is Mbongi?

A Congolese word meaning “learning place.” It refers to the circle of learning in the African village where people gather to learn how to be contributing members of the community.

Mbongi is also the name of the organization formed in 1988 by Titos Sompa to provide artistic and educational programs throughout the US and abroad. The vision of Mbongi is to create “villages” within communities so that people can come together and celebrate their gifts, experience the joy of being connected to body, spirit and each other. Loukoua Congolese Children’s Project is Mbongi’s newest endeavor to extend this vision directly to the needs of the children and community in the Congo.
